Population distribution analysis in Banda Aceh City for tsunami disaster risk reduction

چکیده
Abstract Areas affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami have recovered following a long-term reconstruction process, including Banda Aceh City, Indonesia. Using data from Statistics Indonesia, this study aims to analyze population dynamics in starting (pre-tsunami), 2005 (shortly after tsunami), as well 2010 and 2020 (post-reconstruction phase). Population are calculated at sub-district ( kecamatan ) level observing trends changes size rank based on density growth rate values. Some of tsunami-affected sub-districts experienced recovery pre-disaster levels, while safe areas is relatively high line with development directions east south city. However, disaster risk reduction tasks will be even more challenging coastal growing an alarming rate. Therefore, government needs design comprehensive policy minimize population’s exposure tsunami hazard.

Developing Fragility Functions for Tsunami Damage Estimation Using Numerical Model and Post-tsunami Data from Banda Aceh, Indonesia
Fragility functions, as new measures for estimating structural damage and casualties due to tsunami attack, are developed by an integrated approach using numerical modeling of tsunami inundation and GIS analysis of post-tsunami survey data of the 2004 Sumatra– Andaman earthquake tsunami disaster, obtained from Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The fragility functions are expressed as the damage probabilit...
متن کاملTsunami damage reduction performance of a mangrove forest in Banda Aceh, Indonesia inferred from field data and a numerical model
[1] Since the 26 December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the role of mangrove forests as natural defenses protecting coastal communities from tsunami disaster has been highlighted. However, some mangrove forests were destroyed by that tsunami. They are expected to have lost their protective functions. In this study, we develop a fragility function to assess the mangrove trees’ vulnerability, expres...

The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami caused catastrophic damage to many cities on the rim of the Indian Ocean. Banda Aceh in Sumatra, Indonesia was particularly badly hit due to its close proximity to the epicenter. The Singapore Armed Forces Medical Team was one of the earliest medical teams to arrive in Banda Aceh, providing primary health care to the survivors. In the first 17 days o...

A year and a half earlier, Yusni’s village on the west coast of Aceh province was swept away by the infamous Indian Ocean Boxing Day tsunami. He lost his home and 2 of his younger siblings, yet Yusni somehow managed to survive, although he did su...
